If it weren't for love songs, country music just wouldn't sound the same. Whether reliving sweet memories or bidding a farewell, love songs are universal, sharing emotions to which we can all relate. And the best of them are those we can't quite make it through without shedding a few tears.
There are 112 songs on this list. We started out listing love songs that made the top-five Billboard country chart, but the list was building rapidly, so we decided to focus on only those songs that went to number one. In order to make this list, songs must have “Love” in the title and must have peaked at number on the Billboard country chart. Conway Twitty lead the way with nine, Charley Pride has eight, Dolly Parton accumulated seven and Don Williams and Ronnie Milsap have six each.
Webb Pierce had the biggest love song with “Love, Love, Love,” which ruled the number one position for thirteen weeks, followed by Hank Williams’ “Why Don’t You Love Me,“ which claimed the number one chart position for ten weeks and Eddy Arnold held the top spot for eight weeks with “Just a Little Lovin’.”
